Isles' Capuano hopes to return against Lightning
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Islanders

LIGHTNING (1-0-0) at ISLANDERS (0-1-0)

TV: SUN, MSG-PLUS

Season series: This is the first of three meetings. The Isles and Lightning split a four-game season series in 2011-12.

Big story: New York coach Jack Capuano was forced to miss Saturday’s 2-1 loss to New Jersey at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum due to kidney stones, but is hopeful to make his season debut against the Lightning. If Capuano is unable to work, assistants Doug Weight and Brent Thompson will once again handle the coaching duties.

“I’ve heard of people that have gone through kidney stones, when they talk about the pain, and the sharpness of the pain,” Capuano told the Isles’ web site. “Especially now that I know what it feels like, I wouldn’t wish it upon anybody.”

Team Scope:

Lightning: Tampa Bay opened the 2012-13 season in grand fashion Saturday night, earning a 6-3 win against the Washington Capitals at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Stay-at-home defenseman Eric Brewer chipped in offensively with a pair of goals -- one more than he had all last season -- while newcomer Anders Lindback made 27 saves in his Lightning debut.

“You could feel the chemistry on the bench and in the room,” Lightning coach Guy Boucher told the team’s web site. “Credit to the players. When we were off, they trained. We didn’t have to start from scratch.”

Islanders: New York got off to a sluggish start, mustering just three shots on goal in the first period and only 10 through 40 minutes Saturday night. Travis Hamonic erased a 1-0 deficit via the power play at 7:12 of the third, but David Clarkson beat Evgeni Nabokov just 65 seconds later for what proved to be the game-winner.

"We can't be making excuses in here," Hamonic said. "Maybe we have in the past. But as far as I'm concerned, that's not going to fly in here this year. Everyone's in the same position to start, and we just have to be more mentally ready to play from the start."

Who's hot: Martin St. Louis had two goals and an assist for the Lightning in Saturday’s win, while rookie Cory Conacher had a goal and an assist in his NHL debut.

Injury report: Defenseman Mattias Ohlund (knee) is out for Tampa Bay. … Forwards Josh Bailey (knee) and Jesse Joensuu (groin) are out for New York, while defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky has yet to report to the Isles due to personal reasons.
