On outside looking in, Kings, Flames battle for points
Los Angeles Kings vs. Calgary Flames
KINGS (37-27-12) at FLAMES (35-27-15)

TV: FS-W (HD), SNET-W (HD)

Last 10:
Los Angeles 6-4-0; Calgary 5-2-3

Season series:
This is the fourth and final meeting between these Western Conference rivals. The Flames have won two of the three previous meetings, including a 1-0 triumph on Feb. 18. Michael Cammalleri scored early in the third period against his former team and Miikka Kiprusoff made 28 saves to give Calgary the victory. Cammalleri, who spent his first five NHL seasons with the Kings, has 5 goals and 8 points in nine career games against Los Angeles.

Big story:
Both teams are in a must-win situation as they continue to fight for their playoff lives. The Kings are ninth in West with 86 points, one behind eighth-seeded Phoenix, with only six games remaining. The Flames, who haven't qualified for the playoffs in two straight seasons, are 11th in the conference with 85 points and just five regular-season contests remaining.

Team Scope:

Kings:
Goalie Jonathan Quick made 24 saves but suffered a 1-0 setback to the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. It marked the ninth time this season Los Angeles was shut out, and the sixth time it suffered a 1-0 defeat. Additionally, in Quick's 32 losses this season, the Kings have scored a total of 39 goals. Right wing Justin Williams has been one of the team's most productive performers of late, notching 5 goals and 5 assists in 11 games skating alongside left wing Dustin Brown and center Anze Kopitar.

Flames: Calgary kept its slim playoff hopes alive by scoring a 5-4 victory over the Dallas Stars on Monday to end of five-game losing streak. It was the second of a back-to-back against the Stars. After scoring just six goals during that five-game skid, the Flames erupted on offense. Alex Tanguay's goal 19:32 into the second gave Calgary a 5-3 advantage, Cammalleri had a goal and two assists and Kiprusoff finished with 35 saves.

Who's hot:
Quick has won five of his last seven starts with a 1.41 goals-against average, one shutout and a .943 save percentage; he's 20-11-7 in his last 38 games.

Injury report:
For the Kings, forwards Simon Gagne (concussion) and Scott Parse (hip) are out. … The Flames list defensemen Derek Smith (upper body) and TJ Brodie (upper body) as day-to-day while defenseman Cory Sarich (upper body) and center Mikael Backlund (shoulder) are out.

Stat pack:
Calgary has a 5-2-4 record in its last 11 home games and an 8-4-6 record against teams from the Pacific Division.

Puck drop: "The first thing I tend to do, when I get on the bus or get home, is go on the app on my phone and see who is winning, who won and what the standings are like," Kings defenseman Drew Doughty told the media. "I think everyone on the team is kind of scoreboard-watching. We're just controlling what we can do."
