ISLANDERS (29-32-11) at MAPLE LEAFS (32-33-8)

TV
: MSG PLUS 2 (HD), SNET-O (HD)

Last 10: New York 3-4-3; Toronto 3-6-1.

Season Series: This is the fourth and final meeting between the teams. Toronto has won all three matchups thus far, including a home-and-home sweep on Jan. 23 and 24.

Big Story: Both teams have been all but eliminated from the playoff race, as the Leafs enter Tuesday's action eight points behind eighth-place Washington with nine games remaining, while the Isles are 11 back with 10 games to go. New York is trying to avoid being one of the five teams in the NHL Draft lottery for a fifth consecutive year, while Toronto hasn't qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2004.

Team Scope:

Islanders: In a game featuring the 14th- and 15th-place teams in the Eastern Conference, the Isles earned a 3-2 shootout win at Montreal on Saturday night. Josh Bailey tallied the shootout winner in the sixth round to help Al Montoya (28 saves) record his first victory since Dec. 17.

"We sacrificed our bodies when we needed to," Isles coach Jack Capuano said. "I didn't think that we got down when they tied the score. We kept coming. It's a good win when you come in this building."

Maple Leafs: Monday was a day everyone in Toronto will want to soon forget. The Maple Leafs were simply dominated in every facet of their game against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden in an 8-0 loss. Fifteen different Bruins registered a point as they outscored the Leafs 36-10 in a six-game, season-series sweep.

"We can't really point to any one thing right now that we did well. As a coaching staff we have to take responsibility because we didn't prepare the hockey club properly to go out and compete," Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said. "That's the reality of the situation. When you start right from the first puck drop and turned it over on the very first shift ... just led to one mistake after another. It seemed like we were playing in our boots and they were playing in their skates."

Who's Hot: Isles defenseman Travis Hamonic has a goal and 5 assists in his last four games.

Injury Report: New York will be without Rick DiPietro (sports hernia). … Leafs winger Joffrey Lupul is out with a shoulder injury, while Mike Brown (leg) could return to the lineup Tuesday night.

Stat Pack: Isles captain Mark Streit has reached the 40-point plateau in each of his last four seasons. He missed all of 2010-11 with a shoulder injury. … Toronto is now 3-6 since Carlyle replaced Ron Wilson on March 2.

Puck Drop: "I have never really seen anything like that. I'm not sure why one team has an advantage." -- Leafs goalie James Reimer on Boston's domination of Toronto
