Coyotes try to bounce back against Stars
Dallas Stars vs. Phoenix Coyotes

STARS (13-8-1) at COYOTES (11-7-3)

TV: TXA-21; FS-Arizona Plus (HD)

LAST 10: Dallas 4-5-1; Phoenix 5-4-1

Season Series: It's the third meeting of the season between the Pacific Division rivals. Dallas won a pair of shootout victories last month, 2-1 at home on Oct. 10 and 3-2 at Jobing.com Arena 15 days later.

Big Story: Expect some sore feelings in Phoenix as they prepare to host the Stars. Not only are the Coyotes coming off a 5-0 wipeout at home by Vancouver on Friday, but coach Dave Tippett is sure to remind his troops that they blew leads in the final 1:01 of both of the shootout losses to the Stars.

Team Scope:

Stars: Dallas drew its first full house of the season Friday night for a rare visit from Toronto, but the Stars had to settle for one point when the Leafs got the only goal of the shootout for a 4-3 win. Joffrey Lupul scored in the third round and Jonas Gustavsson barely kept Mike Ribeiro's backhander from crossing the goal line. The Stars had the better of the play for much of the night, but had to settle for half a loaf.

"We worked hard," forward Radek Dvorak said. "It's too bad we came up with just one point, but it shows that we can play the whole 60 minutes. If you want to keep putting points on the board and if you want to play our game, you have to work hard and we did that."

Coyotes: Most coaches like to get right back on the ice after a bad loss. Phoenix coach Dave Tippett and his players will have that chance one night after laying an egg against Vancouver. The Coyotes did almost nothing right against the red-hot Canucks, who beat them in just about every way possible.

"Our execution was so down below par that it wasn't even a game," a disgusted Tippett said. "We kept turning it over and they kept taking the chances. We didn't start very good, we didn't have a good middle and we didn't end very well. That sums it up right there."

Who's Hot: Eric Nystrom, a waiver claim from Minnesota at the start of the season, had two of Dallas' three goals on Friday and has seven in seven weeks of the season after scoring just four times for Minnesota on Friday. … Though he didn't do anything Friday, Coyotes forward Radim Vrbata has five goals in his last four games and 11 in the Coyotes' first 21. Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith is 8-1-2 in his last 11 starts.

Injury Report: Dallas captain Brenden Morrow didn't play Friday because of a lower-body injury; he won't play Saturday and is expected to miss at least another game or two. … Phoenix defenseman Michal Rozsival is still out with an upper-body injury.

Stat Pack: Dallas was the last team in the NHL to lose a game after regulation. The Stars are now 2-0 in overtime and 2-1 in the shootout. … The Coyotes are 5-1-1 in games where Vrbata has scored and 6-6-2 when he hasn't.

Puck Drop: Kyle Turris led the Coyotes through their pre-skate stretch at Friday's morning skate. The newly signed center will continue to skate with the Coyotes for another couple of days before heading to AHL Portland for conditioning. As for the contract battle that kept him away from the team until he signed last week, he told the media: "It's business, (and I'm) just getting back on the ice and getting comfortable again."
