Kings go for sweep of Ducks
Los Angeles Kings vs. Anaheim Ducks

KINGS (9-6-3) at DUCKS (6-8-4)

TV: FS-W (HD); PRIME (HD)

Last 10: Los Angeles 4-2-2; Anaheim 2-5-3

Season Series: The Southern California rivals are meeting for the second time this season -- and the second in as many nights. The Kings went home with the extra point on Wednesday by winning 2-1 in a seven-round shootout.

Big Story: The back end of the home-and-home series will have to be pretty good to live up to the intensity of the first half, a game that saw Anaheim score late in the third period to force overtime before the Kings' Justin Williams got the winner in round seven of the shootout.

Team Scope:

Kings: Los Angeles had to work hard for its two points after allowing a late power-play goal that allowed the Ducks to force the game past regulation. The Kings outshot and outplayed the Ducks for most of the night, and while goalie Jonathan Quick was happy with the win, he wasn't happy about letting the visitors go home with a point.

"We can't too happy about it, because they still got a point out of it" he said. "That's a game where we were outplaying them, and we've got to make sure they don't get any points and we get two. They got one there on the power play at the end that I think I could have stopped. That was a little disappointing, but to get two points, it's always good."

Ducks: It was another night when they went home without two points, but getting one in a game in which they were outplayed and outshot was some solace for the Ducks, who stayed in the game thanks to 36 saves by Jonas Hiller. Teemu Selanne's late power-play goal earned the point.

"We didn't really get our game going until the last half of the hockey game and then we played the type of hockey that's going to be required," Carlyle said. "Our goaltender was called upon to make some big stops for us tonight, and that's what's required on the road."

Who's Hot: Richards has three goals in his last four games for the Kings after getting just two in his first 14. … Selanne's goal gave him 16 points, the most on the Ducks.

Injury Report: Los Angeles forward Dustin Penner (hand) and defenseman Alex Martinez (shoulder) went on IR, joining forward Scott Parse (lower-body injury). … Anaheim defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky (broken finger) and George Parros (eye) are out, as is forward Jason Blake, who had wrist surgery last month. Niklas Hagman, a waiver claim from Calgary, has had problems with his visa and didn't play Wednesday.

Stat Pack: The shootout win was the first in three tries this season for L.A. goaltender Jonathan Quick, who was 10-0 in 2010-11. … The Kings had 74 shot attempts on Hiller in Wednesday's game, though only half of them reached the goaltender. L.A.'s 17 first-period shots were a season high. … Anaheim has scored two goals or less in 12 of its 18 games.

Puck Drop: Carlyle said getting a point was something his team can build on going into Thursday' rematch.

"We got the point and we worked hard for it," he said. "It's one shot away in the shootout from being a difference maker. Right now things aren't going our way, but if we work as hard as we did in the last half of this hockey game, there's a light at the end of the tunnel "
