CANUCKS (8-7-1) at DUCKS (5-7-3)
TV: SNET-Pacific; PRIME
LAST 10: Vancouver 6-4-0; Anaheim 1-6-3
Season Series: It's the first of four meetings this season. The clubs split four games in 2010-11, with each winning once at home and once on the road.
Big Story: The Canucks wrap up a six-game road trip by heading down the highway to Anaheim after hanging on for a 3-2 win at Los Angeles on Thursday. The Ducks are trying to figure out where their offense has gone -- despite having some of the NHL's biggest-name shooters, they're struggling to score and are coming off a 4-2 home loss to Nashville on Wednesday.
Canucks: Vancouver's special teams lived up to their name in the victory against Los Angeles. The power play was especially effective, scoring twice in the first period after connecting five times in Chicago on Sunday.
"We're moving the puck, we're moving our feet," captain Henrik Sedin said after the Canucks improved to 3-2-0 on their trip. "Hammer (Dan Hamhuis) has come in and playing really well at the point. The way he moves the puck and the way he skates with the puck is hard to defend."
Ducks: Six straight losses, including one to Nashville in their return home after a seven-game trip, have the Ducks staring up at most of the Western Conference.
"It's hard. We're letting each other down," said captain and first-line center Ryan Getzlaf, who has just one point during the slide. "The little mistakes we're making are costing us. The last few games we were gripping the sticks pretty tight and trying to do a few more things than we need to. I thought we did a better job of staying within our system (Wednesday), but we had a few mental breakdowns, and it cost us."
Injury Report: Mason Raymond (back), Byron Bitz (lower body) and Steve Pinizzotto (shoulder) remain on IR for Vancouver. Alexandre Burrows (back spasms) didn't play Thursday. … Anaheim enforcer George Parros will be out for another three weeks after eye surgery. Nick Bonino (knee) and Jason Blake (wrist surgery) are also out. The Ducks claimed center Ben Maxwell from Winnipeg on Thursday.
Stat Pack: Vancouver is 12-for-32 on the power play and 24-for-26 on the penalty kill in its past six games. … Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome scored his first NHL game-winner in L.A. … The Canucks re 5-1-0 when scoring more than three goals; 3-6-1 when scoring three or fewer.
Puck Drop: Teemu Selanne has nine goals in his last 10 games against the Canucks and a team-high 14 points in 15 games, but he's gone three games without a point. The last time the 41-year-old went that long without a point was March 2010, when he suffered through a five-game drought.
