Coyotes go for eighth straight in Philadelphia
Phoenix Coyotes vs. Philadelphia Flyers
COYOTES (32-19-9) at FLYERS (39-15-5)

TV --
FS-A (HD), CSN-PH (HD)

Last 10 -- Coyotes 8-2-0; Flyers 7-3-0

Season series -- This is the only meeting of the season between these inter-conference opponents. Fortunately for the Flyers the game is at Wells Fargo Center, as Philadelphia has not won in Phoenix since 2003 and is 1-5-0 on the road against the Coyotes dating to the 2000-01 season. The Coyotes scored a 3-1 triumph in Glendale in the last meeting, in November 2009. The Flyers last celebrated a victory against Phoenix on Nov. 22, 2008 when Mike Richards scored 1:35 into overtime to give the Flyers a 4-3 win in Philadelphia.

Big story -- The Coyotes will be looking to extend their winning streak to a season-high eight games in the second stop on a five-game road trip. Phoenix is first in the Pacific Division and third in the Western Conference with 73 points -- seven points behind second-place Detroit. The Coyotes have outscored their opponents, 19-11, during their seven-game run. The Coyotes have an impressive 17-9-4 record on the road this season, and have won seven of their last eight away from Jobing.com Arena.

Team Scope:

Coyotes --
After earning his seventh straight victory with a 3-2 win against the Predators on Saturday, expect goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to make his 19th consecutive start against the Flyers. During the Coyotes' recent seven-game streak, Bryzgalov has stopped 190 of 201 shots (.945 save percentage). Six of the wins have been by one goal and four by the score of 3-2.

Coyotes captain Shane Doan was awarded a penalty shot -- the team's first of the season -- 10 seconds into the second period against Nashville after he was hauled down from behind by Predators defenseman Alexander Sulzer. On the penalty shot, Doan faked a slap shot and then tried to slip the puck between the pads of Pekka Rinne, but failed.

Flyers -- Philadelphia went penalty-free during a 4-2 victory against the New York Rangers on Sunday. Claude Giroux and Daniel Carcillo scored second-period goals, Brian Boucher made 37 saves and newly acquired Kris Versteeg scored into an empty net for his first goal as a Flyer. It marked only the third time in franchise history the team went an entire game without a penalty (March 18, 1979 vs. St. Louis and Nov. 26, 2000 vs. Phoenix).

The Flyers, who have won six of their last eight games, remain atop the Eastern Conference standings with 83 points -- eight ahead of second-place Tampa Bay.

Who's hot -- Phoenix All-Star defenseman Keith Yandle has points in three straight games (1 goal, 5 points) and in four of his last five games. He leads all NHL defensemen with 51 points. He also sports a plus-7 rating over his last four games. … Flyers forward Claude Giroux has 18 points in 16 games.

Injury report -- The Coyotes are without defenseman Ed Jovanovski (eye surgery). Defenseman Adrian Aucoin (lower-body) is day-to-day and forward Ray Whitney, who suffered a lower-body injury in the first period against Nashville, is probable. … Flyers defenseman Sean O'Donnell (lower-body) and forward Blair Betts (finger) are out. O'Donnell, who suffered a left knee injury against the Rangers on Sunday, could miss 10 days to two weeks according to GM Paul Holmgren.

Stat pack -- Doan played in his 1,097th game with the Jets/Coyotes franchise on Saturday in Nashville, and, barring injury he'll break Teppo Numminen's club record of 1,098 games played with the franchise Wednesday in Tampa Bay. … Flyers captain Mike Richards had a 169-game playing streak snapped when he missed last Friday's game against the Hurricanes with the flu. It was the first game he missed since Feb. 8, 2009 at Atlanta.

Puck drop -- When told that for only the third time in team history the Flyers went an entire game without being called for a penalty, Carcillo was surprised.

"Really? Wow, that's impressive," he said. "That's a little out of the ordinary. We kept it clean for Hockey Day in America, I guess."
