Leafs take six-game skid to Florida
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Florida Panthers
MAPLE LEAFS (5-6-3) at PANTHERS (5-7-0)

TV: TSN, Fox Sports-Florida.

Last 10: Toronto 1-6-3; Florida 5-5-0.

Season Series: This is the second of four meetings between the teams. Toronto skated away with a 3-1 victory on Oct. 26 at the Air Canada Centre. Colton Orr scored the game-winner.

Big Story: The woes continue for Toronto, which suffered a 4-0 loss at Tampa Bay on Tuesday night. The Lightning scored twice in a 29-second span midway through the first period and never looked back. The Leafs, meanwhile, have won once in their last 10 games and have been outscored 19-8 -- including being shutout three times -- during a six-game skid.

Team Scope:

Maple Leafs: Toronto goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere let his team have it after Tuesday's loss, as he questioned the Leafs' effort and their lack of preparation against the Lightning.

"We didn't compete," Giguere told the Globe and Mail. "You knew they were going to be ready, they got beat pretty bad the last game on the road ... You've got to be aware of these things. I don't know. I'm a bit lost. I don't know what to say. We're just going to have to regroup.

"I think it was obvious we weren't ready to start ... As a group, we just weren't ready to compete and do what we needed to do to win the game," he said. "I mean, we played better in the second and third but that's not enough. In the situation we're in, you need to see some desperation out of the guys, some competitiveness and we're not seeing that.

"I don't understand why it's not happening. There's nothing given in this league. It's a tough league to win in, especially on the road. You need to show up ready. Things might not go your way, that's understandable, and you're not going to win them all but after you lose a few in a row like that, you need to start showing something.

"Tonight we didn't even have a chance."

Panthers: Inconsistency has plagued Florida, as it followed up a 7-4 win against Carolina on Friday with a 3-2 loss to the same club just 24 hours later. After consecutive 50-shot efforts, Florida had only nine through the first two periods Saturday night.

"We were in it, for the most part. All game long, we were right there," goalie Scott Clemmensen said. "So nothing to hang our head about, but it's disappointing not to get the win. It always is."

Who's Hot: Phil Kessel and Clarke MacArthur are tied for the Leafs' lead with 7 goals apiece. … David Booth leads the Panthers with 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in 12 games.

Injury Report: Leafs forward Colby Armstrong (broken finger, fractured foot) and defenseman Dion Phaneuf (leg laceration) are out. … Panthers forwards Byron Bitz (sports hernia) and Cory Stillman (shoulder) are out, while defenseman Jason Garrison (groin) is day-to-day.

Stat Pack: Toronto coach Ron Wilson, with 587 wins, remains one victory away from tying Jacques Lemaire for seventh place on the NHL career list. … Florida defenseman Mike Weaver has 4 points in 12 games this season after notching a total of 10 last season in Minnesota.

Puck Drop: "This League is about scoring first, so we passed up a great opportunity. You've got to find a way to get our power play going because if you don't score -- like a 5-on-3 - it's depressing not to score or even get a scoring chance." -- Leafs coach Ron Wilson after Tuesday's loss at Tampa Bay
