Mueller, Wolski set to be on opposite sides
Colorado Avalanche vs. Phoenix Coyotes
AVALANCHE (36-21-6) at COYOTES (37-22-5)

Last 10: Colorado 6-4-0; Phoenix 6-4-0.

Season Series: This is the third of four meetings between the teams. Colorado is 2-0 against Phoenix this season and most recently defeated the Coyotes by a 2-1 score on Feb. 12 at the Pepsi Center.

Big Story: Wojtek Wolski won't have to wait very long to face his former team. Just one day after being traded to the Coyotes in exchange for Peter Mueller, Wolski's first game with Phoenix will come against, of all teams, Colorado.

"Wojtek Wolski is a terrific young offensive player," Coyotes GM Don Maloney said. "He is a talented goal scorer that will help us offensively and on the power play. He has great size and is just entering the prime of his career."

Team Scope:

Avalanche: Not even a 2-0 deficit could stop Colorado on Wednesday night, as it rallied for an impressive 4-3 victory against the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center. Anaheim had won its previous 11 games at home. It marked the seventh time this season that the Avs have rallied from two goals down to win.

"I just don't think we quit," said Avs rookie Matt Duchene, who scored in Wednesday's victory. "When you start shooting the puck, good things happen. I think that was the key in the second and third (periods)."

Coyotes: Phoenix will have a much different look as opposed to the first two times these teams faced each other. Maloney made seven deals on Wednesday, bringing in veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider and Derek Morris, as well as gritty forwards Lee Stempniak and Petteri Nokelainen.

"There's no question we are night and day from where we were 24 hours ago in regards to skill, experience and grit," Maloney said after completing the busy day. "Our defense is now as good as anybody's, in my mind. But now we have to get the chemistry right and we have to play as a team and a group, and if we do that then we're going to be much harder (to play against)."

Who's Hot: Avs forward Chris Stewart had three more points on Wednesday night and now has 21 goals this season. … Matthew Lombardi picked up his 14th goal in the Coyotes' 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Injury Report: Colorado defenseman Kyle Cumiskey (concussion) is out indefinitely, while right wings David Jones (knee) and Milan Hejduk (back) are on injured reserve. …  Coyotes defenseman Kurt Sauer is out indefinitely with a neck injury and forward Scottie Upshall is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Stat Pack: Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov is one win shy of tying the Winnipeg/Phoenix franchise record of 33 wins in a season. He was pulled on Tuesday after allowing five goals in two periods.

Puck Drop: "He pulled me aside, told me I was traded, wished me the best of luck and that was that. Obviously it's a little bit of a shock, but I'm here now and I'm very excited to start a new page in my life and my career." -- Peter Mueller after being informed of the trade by Coyotes GM Don Maloney
