Islanders-Canadiens Preview
New York Islanders vs. Montréal Canadiens

Montreal has dominated the New York Islanders for nearly a decade at home despite an underwhelming power play. The Canadiens, though, haven't had the same fortune against recent opponents.

After yet another poor performance with the man advantage, the Canadiens look to win their seventh straight against the Islanders as the teams meet Monday night.

Montreal (11-5-3) has outscored New York (8-10-2) 24-10 since a 3-2 road loss on Feb. 24, 2007. The Canadiens have also won 12 of their last 15 (12-3-0) at home against the Islanders despite being limited to goals on 17.7 percent (11-for-62) of their power-play opportunities.

On Nov. 1, Montreal beat New York 5-4 despite going 0-for-3 on the power play. Yann Danis, who has since been sent to the minors, was in goal for the Islanders in that contest, but the Canadiens have had problems scoring regardless of who has been in net.

Montreal is 3-4-2 since getting off to an 8-1-1 start, scoring two goals or fewer four times during its slump. The Canadiens' scoring woes are largely due to their struggles on the power play, going 2-for-27 (7.4 percent) in their last six contests.

The Habs failed to score on all four of their chances with the man advantage and on all three shootout attempts in a 3-2 loss to Boston on Saturday night.

Carey Price gave the Canadiens a chance to win with 25 saves, but gave up the only goal of the shootout. He has a 2.68 goals-against average in his last five games, but is 2-2-1 in that stretch.

"(Price) was excellent again," Canadiens coach Guy Carbonneau said. "I asked our goalies to give us a chance to win, and both of them have been doing that the last little while."

Jaroslav Halak has been solid when spelling Price, going 2-1-0 with a 2.46 GAA.

Islanders goalie Joey MacDonald, meanwhile, is beginning to settle down after struggling early in place of injured starter Rick DiPietro. MacDonald has made 10 straight starts and has given up two goals or fewer in five of his last six, with New York winning four if its last five (4-1-0) contests.

"That's what my job is. I have to come up and make the save when we need it," he said.

MacDonald turned aside 18 shots in the second period and finished with 35 saves in the Islanders' 4-2 win over Buffalo on Saturday night.

"When we're in the lead, we feel we deserve it and aren't completely shocked," said New York veteran winger Bill Guerin, who scored his seventh goal. "It has a lot to do with us being comfortable in that position."

Guerin scored in New York's previous matchup with Montreal.

Frans Nielsen, who had a goal and an assist in that contest against the Canadiens, is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks due to multiple injuries to his right leg. The 24-year-old center was laid out by an elbow from New Jersey defenseman Mike Mottau in the third period of Friday night's 5-2 loss.

To replace Nielsen, the Islanders recalled center Jeremy Colliton from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL on Saturday.
