Detroit (12-5-2) and Vancouver (10-10-1) opened the season against each other Oct. 5, and the Canucks came away with a 3-1 road victory behind a goal and an assist from defenseman Sami Salo. The Wings went 1-0-1 in their next two home games, but have since won five in a row there.
They will be playing their first game at Joe Louis Arena in nearly two weeks after completing a three-game road trip with a 4-3 shootout loss to Edmonton on Saturday. Detroit ran its win streak to nine with a 3-2 victory over the Canucks in the opener of the trip, but fell 4-1 to Calgary in the middle contest.
The Red Wings lost a season-high three in a row prior to the nine-game run.
Detroit salvaged a point against the Oilers when Jiri Hudler scored with 3.9 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Edmonton then won in the seventh round of the shootout.
The Wings may get Tomas Holmstrom and Niklas Kronwall back from groin injuries for the first time since Nov. 10. Holmstrom, who set career highs with 29 goals and 30 assists last season, had four goals and nine points in 16 games before getting hurt against Nashville.
Despite their win in the season opener, the Canucks have just eight victories in their last 29 visits to Detroit since 1991-92.
Vancouver rebounded from last Tuesday's loss to the Red Wings with consecutive home victories over St. Louis and Chicago. Markus Naslund scored his 10th goal of the season on an early power play and Josh Green added his first in the second period as the Canucks beat the Blackhawks 2-1 on Sunday night.
Roberto Luongo made 22 saves for the Canucks, who earned consecutive victories for the first time in more than three weeks but have won just three of nine. They scored two goals or less for the eighth time in their last nine contests despite having 39 shots on goal.
"We did a lot of good things, we created a lot of opportunities and one of these days, they're all going to go in," Naslund said.
Naslund has three goals in his last two games and leads the Canucks with 10. He has a goal and an assist in the two meetings with Detroit this season.
Detroit has won three of the last four meetings with Vancouver after dropping four of the previous five matchups. These teams don't play again until they conclude their season series with a meeting at GM Place on March 17.
