Devils-Islanders Preview
New Jersey Devils vs. New York Islanders

GAME: New Jersey Devils (31-22-6) at New York Islanders (25-28-4).

TIME: Thursday, 7 p.m. EST.

The surging New Jersey Devils look to win back-to-back road games for the first time in more than a month when they visit the New York Islanders.

The Devils are 15-4-1 since the start of 2006, but have not won consecutive road games since a four-game winning streak from Jan. 7-19.

New Jersey is 1-2-1 in its last four road games, getting shut out twice and being outscored 11-5 in those games.

The Devils have lost three of their last four games at Nassau Coliseum, but defeated the Islanders 4-0 on Jan. 24 as Martin Brodeur turned aside 24 shots.

Brodeur has played every game in 2006 and has posted a 1.82 goals-against average with five shutouts in those games.

He improved to 6-1 in shootouts in New Jersey's 2-1 shootout win Wednesday over the Philadelphia Flyers in the Devils' first game after the Olympic break.

The Canadian Olympic goalie stopped all three Philadelphia shots, and has allowed just three goals in 26 shootout attempts, the best goals-to-saves ratio in the NHL among goalies who have faced at least 20 shots.

"When you've got Martin Brodeur in the net, that gives you a tremendous amount of confidence," Devils coach Lou Lamoriello said. "It puts less pressure on our shooters."

At 29-18-4, Brodeur is one win away from his 10th consecutive 30-win season. No other goalie in NHL history has more than eight consecutive 30-win seasons.

Viktor Kozlov scored in regulation and added the only goal in a shootout to snap an eight-game scoring drought.

The Devils were 0 for 3 on the power play against the Flyers, and are 0 for 10 in their last three games.

"The most important thing was we didn't get frustrated when we didn't score on the power play," Lamoriello said. "We played the kind of game we wanted to play coming out of the break."

The Islanders came out of the break with a 5-3 loss Tuesday to the Montreal Canadiens.

Miroslav Satan scored twice and Mark Parrish added a goal for New York, which is eight points behind Montreal in the race for the final playoff spot.

New York outshot Montreal 27-13 through two periods, and 35-22 for the game, but fell behind 3-0 after 40 minutes.

"Our guys came out and played well," said backup goaltender Garth Snow, who has lost six straight decisions. "We totally outshot and outchanced them in the first two periods, but didn't have a lead to show for it."

U.S. Olympic goaltender Rick DiPietro replaced Snow at the start of the third period and allowed two goals in nine shots. He has not started since defeating the Devils 2-1 on Feb. 11, in each team's last game before the Olympic break.

DiPietro is 3-1-1 against New Jersey this season with a 2.18 GAA, but is 0-2-1 in his last three home games with a 4.18 GAA.
