Calgary extended its winning run to seven on Monday with a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild as Jarome Iginla scored the game-winner on the power play with 67 seconds remaining. The win was also the Flames' seventh in a row at home.
Calgary had 25 shots on goal in the third period, tying a club record set on Nov. 5, 1988, against Edmonton, to overcome a 2-0 deficit. The Flames haven't won eight straight since Dec. 14, 1992-Jan. 2, 1993.
"We were skating better," said Iginla, who also had two assists in recording his fourth straight multipoint game. "We were probably a little bit more determined. We created a lot more havoc around their net. We were more desperate."
The Flames, who average 2.55 goals per game, will need to continue that intensity against a Detroit team giving up only 2.21 goals per contest.
The Red Wings, though, are not having the best of luck against Northwest Division teams.
The Central Division-leading Red Wings boast an 8-0 record against teams in their own division, but are 2-2-1 against clubs from the Northwest.
Detroit fell to the Vancouver Canucks, another Northwest team, 4-1 on Sunday night. It was only the fourth loss of the season for the Red Wings and their second to Vancouver.
Center Pavel Datsyuk, who leads the Red Wings with 22 points, put Detroit on the board first, but the Canucks scored four unanswered goals to earn the win.
"We had a good start, got the first goal, and played well," said Red Wings goaltender Manny Legace, who finished with 22 saves but lost for the second time this season.
The high-powered Detroit offense, which averages 3.79 goals per game, was limited to one goal for the second time this season.
