Thrashers-Oilers Preview

GAME: Atlanta Thrashers (21-28-6-2) at Edmonton Oilers (22-24-8-1).

TIME: Wednesday, 10 p.m. EST.

The Atlanta Thrashers will try to end a nine-game winless streak as they visit the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

This is the second of a seven-game road trip for the Thrashers, who haven't won since a 4-1 home triumph over Buffalo on Jan. 20. Atlanta has gone 0-7-2 since, including five straight losses with Tuesday's 5-2 setback at Calgary.

Ilya Kovalchuk, fresh off his All-Star game appearance, scored both goals for the Thrashers, who are 12th in the Eastern Conference playoff standings, 10 points out of eighth.

The Thrashers also went winless in nine straight from Dec. 28-Jan. 16.

Dany Heatley added an assist for Atlanta on Tuesday, but has scored just once in six games since returning to the team on Jan. 28. The 23-year-old right wing missed the first 51 games of the season after being injured in the Sept. 29 car accident that resulted in the death of teammate Dan Snyder.

The Oilers are within seven points of eighth place in the Western Conference after a 5-3 home victory over St. Louis last Wednesday. Ryan Smyth scored twice and Ethan Moreau, Radek Dvorak and Shawn Horcoff also tallied as Edmonton won its second straight and third in four games.

Dvorak, who has three points in his last two games, has 10 points in 16 career games against Atlanta.

The Oilers are 3-2-1 all-time against the Thrashers, including 1-1-1 at home.
