GAME: Calgary Flames (20-12-3-3) at New York Islanders (19-16-3-1).

TIME: Tuesday, 7 p.m. EST.

After beginning December in the midst of a season-high seven-game losing streak, the New York Islanders are suddenly one of the hottest teams in the NHL.

The Islanders will look to continue racking up points as they host the Calgary Flames at Nassau Coliseum.

Trent Hunter and Adrian Aucoin scored in a four-minute span of the third period Saturday, helping New York pull out a 3-3 tie with the Boston Bruins.

"The boys battled tonight. We were down 3-1 and could have eventually quit," Hunter said. "We weren't going to give up. It's definitely great to get a point out of it."

The Islanders, who also got a goal from Mariusz Czerkawski, are 6-1-1 over their last eight games and 10-3-1-1 since snapping their seven-game skid with a 5-2 win over Chicago on Dec. 6.

"I think we learned a lot after our long stretch of losing that there's always a chance," Aucoin said.

New York has been outscored only three times in the third period over its last 18 games.

The Flames are coming off Monday's impressive 5-0 win over the New York Rangers -- their fifth straight road victory.

Jamie McLennan stopped 36 shots for his second shutout in four starts and 13th of his career as Calgary snapped a season-high three-game winless streak (0-2-1). McLennan was making his third straight start in place of Miikka Kiprusoff, who sprained a ligament in his left knee on Dec. 28 and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

Andrew Ference had two goals and an assist and Jerome Iginla added a goal and two assists for the Flames.
