New Jersey, which has dropped five points back of Atlantic Division-leading Philadelphia with its recent slump, is coming off Saturday's 3-2 loss at Nashville.
The Devils were outshot 13-7 in the first period and never seemed to recover.
"The first period wasn't very good for us," New Jersey coach Pat Burns said. "It was probably the worst first period I've seen in a while from our end of it. But we only came out of it losing 1-0. There's no reason to blame the whole game on that."
Martin Brodeur, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner as the league's top goalie, is winless in his last five starts for New Jersey, going 0-2-2-1. He stopped 24 of 27 shots Saturday, yielding at least three goals for the third time in four outings.
The Oilers rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, as Ethan Moreau scored the go-ahead goal 55 seconds into the third period. Tommy Salo made 22 saves for the Oilers, who have won two straight and are undefeated in three games.
Edmonton defenseman Jason Smith has missed the last two games with a sprained left ankle. He's expected to sit out another week to 10 days.
