San Jose Sharks vs. Los Angeles Kings

Saturday, 12.27.2003 / 7:30 PM

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The top two teams in the Pacific Division meet at Staples Center on Saturday when the Los Angeles Kings host the San Jose Sharks in the finale of a home-and-home series.

The Sharks pulled into a tie with the Kings for first place in the division after rolling to a 5-0 rout in the opener of the home-and-home set on Friday.

Evgeni Nabokov made 25 saves for his third shutout of the season and Patrick Marleau scored twice in a span of 29 seconds in the second period as San Jose extended its winning streak to three games.

Jonathan Cheechoo had a pair of goals and Nils Ekman scored for the Sharks, who are without a loss in a franchise-record 10 straight home games.

San Jose, which had managed only 23 goals in its previous 12 games, scored more than three goals for the first time since November 21.

Los Angeles goalie Cristobal Huet struggled in place of injured goaltender Roman Cechmanek, who has been sidelined for eight consecutive games with a bruised hip.

The Kings had their four-game unbeaten streak snapped and were shutout for the third time this season.
